Rules
The United Baseball Association (UBA) is a baseball simulation league. All the games are simulated using Out of the Park Baseball (OOTP) 2007. The UBA formed from the ashes of the American Baseball League, which ended in July of 2007. The members of the UBA look to sustain the level of excellence for simulation leagues set forth by Jay Soester and the members of the ABL. We are here not only to compete in the league, but just to share our love of sports as well - you will find that this will quickly develop into something of a small family where we all know each others' preferences of sports and other things. The United Baseball Association is starting its inaugural season with 12 teams, and plans to expand in the seasons thereafter.

The UBA is run by three members: Cameron Norris, Kevin Joseph, and Nicholas Alicea. Working together, they strive to run as efficient and fun a league as possible. Every member of the league establishes their role over time, and plays an important part in the success of it.
Joining the UBA
You can join the league as a member to discuss sports, as a coach, and eventually, work your way up to owning a team. Keep in mind that the UBA is free the join and be a member of. Never, at any time, will you be asked for any money to participate. If interested in joining, please contact one of the commissioners on AIM at KJCrusader09 or CamNorrisTV.

An owner of a UBA franchise is expected to handle all the intricacies of a typical baseball organization, from lineups and depth charts to finances and drafting. In order to remain an owner in the UBA, an owner must stay active on the message boards, keep tabs on his team by updating it regularly as needed, and attending live events such as simulations and drafts. The UBA administration keeps track of all the activity and events of an owner, and will act accordingly to replace an inactive owner.

To coach in the UBA, you must join the league and then post in the 'Home Plate Nationwide' section to request a coaching job. Typically, a coach is an owner's assistant and handles his respective organization's minor league affiliates. The role of a coach is to help scout for events such as drafts, and look out for potential moves that could help his franchise. A coach's advancement to ownership is rated by his activity on the message boards, as well as the success of the minor league teams that he is in control of.

As a member of the league, you are able to discuss sports and other news items as you please. You will find that the members of this league are very knowledgeable, and a lot know what they are talking about.
Owner Points System
A concept heavily borrowed from the American Baseball League, the owner points system is a way to promote league activity and make sure that each owner and coach is pulling his own weight.

They will be kept track of on the 'Points' page linked off the UBA's homepage, and all reward point additions will be recorded in a stickied thread in the 'Around the UBA' section.

Each season, every owner will have to earn 30 owner points and write one article to retain his job.

Coaches can earn owner points to redeem to their team, but can not assist in the 30 points an owner needs to retain his job.

There are three main ways to earn reward points:

Articles
Anyone, at any time, can write articles about anything pertinent to the UBA, from draft reviews to power rankings. Each owner must write at least one quality article to serve as the article requirement. Articles will be worth anywhere from 0-5 owner points, with extra points for superior articles, and or, special request. All articles are to be posted in the 'Around the UBA' section.

Live League Events
If you attend a UBA Draft Chat or Game Play-by-Play Chat, you are eligible for owner points. They will be given out at the discretion of the commissioners based on both the length and depth of the chat, as well as your activity and value to it.

Assignments
Assignments are not a requirement for any owner. However, they will usually be worth more than a normal article or live league event because of their importance to the league. All assignments will be posted in the 'Commissioners' section of the message boards, and anyone is eligible to take one on.

Redeeming Owner Points
Of course, there is a purpose to earning owner points. You can redeem them to improve your players, with a few stipulations:

It costs 5 owner points to increase any major category to a player. A major category is considered Contact, Gap, Power, Avoid K's, and Eye/Discipline, Stuff, Movement, or Control. Secondary categories, such as Endurance, Speed, or Defense, can be increased by 1 rating point for 3 owner points each.

You can only redeem points for players in your minor leagues. This is an attempt to help not throw off the UBA at one time by something as unnatural as a power boost to a superstar hitter. Keep in mind that with OOTP's advanced player morale system, sending a superstar down to AAA, redeeming points, and then calling him back up will anger him, and most likely affect his performance.
Redeem points in a designated thread in the 'Around the UBA' section.

Introduction to the Message Boards
The league message board, which is linked off the homepage, serves as the base of the league where all transactions are made and where members discuss different things. It is divided into the following four main sections:

UBA
Conversation
Founder's Section
Team Boards

These boards are further divided into subcategories, which are listed and explained below.

UBA
Home Plate Nationwide: This section serves as the league home, where all updates are posted, discussions of prior simulations take place, and events such as drafts are discussed in advance.

Trading Block: Here, owners can post their trade blocks as to who they are looking to move and what they would like in return. It gives members a good base to work by when discussing trades with other teams.

Conversation
Sports Talk: League members can discuss anything in sports today in any league, from basketball to cricket. Keep tabs on your favorite team and get into some heated debates with other members on relevant issues.

Non-Sports Talk: Anything not related to sports, from irrelevant material that may be funny to world news can be posted and discussed here. If you are going away for some time, please post it in the Absences/ Departures thread in this section so that we know why you are inactive for some time.

Founder's Section
Ask Alicea: This is a section for simulation league veteran and Atlanta owner Nick Alicea. You can ask Nick anything and everything here. In his section, Alicea will be running fantasy sports leagues for everyone and different simulations with different games. Feel free to run your own small dynasty, or post how your team is doing in som video game.

Commissioners: You can ask any league- related and off-topic questions to one of the commissioners, Kevin Joseph and Cameron Norris. The commissioners will sometimes post some things they need help with that could be of value to the league, and all members are welcome to help out.

Doodle: In the ABL, the dynamic duo of Michael 'dude' Bryant and Dan 'Your Mom' Gettle quickly established itself. As two of the funniest members of the league, they have been given their own section to do whatever the hell they please, and you can join in on the fun too.

Team Boards
All the teams in the UBA have their own team board that is password protected. Owners can make all their transactions and update their team from here. This section of the boards are further discussed below.
The UBA: The Baseball Side of Things
Team Boards
For a UBA owner, the team board is where everything pertinent to his team will be posted, and where all updates he needs to make will be attended to. All of the team boards are password protected with a password of the owner's preference, so that he can keep all of his transactions private. The owner can post his lineups, rotations, depth charts, and general strategies in this section for both his UBA team and its minor league affiliates. All free agent signing offers and extensions will be posted here as well. Aside from that, you can designate a player for assignment, waive a player, or put injured players on the disabled list. Keep in mind that moves such as waiving a player will be announced publicly so that teams can claim players.

Trade Block
There is a whole section dedicated to posting trade blocks so that owners can put disgrunted superstars, expendable prospects, and whomever else they feel like, up for trade.

League Format
The league currently consists of 12 teams, split into two leagues, the East and West. After subsequent expansions, the leagues will be further split into divisions geographically.

Eastern League
Atlanta Fire
Boston Colonials
Charlotte Pilots
Miami Breakers
New York Towers
Philadelphia Fury

Western League
Chicago Midways
Dallas Roughriders
Detroit Diggers
Houston Navigators
Los Angeles Titans
San Francisco Seawolves

The UBA will run on a 162 game schedule with playoffs to follow. For the first season, the playoff format will consist of the champion from both leagues playing a 9 game series to determine the champion.

The minor leagues consist of a AAA, AA, and A affiliate for each UBA team. The specific teams and affiliations of each can be found using the OOTP Files, on the UBA website, or on the message boards.

AAA is divided into the Cascades League and Sun League.

AA is divided into the Desert League and Seasider League.

A is divided into the Prairie Leauge and Rust League.

The minor leagues will all play 140 game seasons with no playoff. The regular season record will determine the champion of each league.

Season Information

Trades
In order to conduct a trade, both teams must agree to all aspects of the deal. Then, both teams must send a private message to Kevin Joseph via the message boards at the username 'admin' with all details of the trade. For the players each team is receiving in a deal, that respective owner must designate a level to send that player to, whether it be the UBA, AAA, AA, or A.

Drafts
All drafts will be conducted using an AIM chatroom. Well before the draft, the page with all the draftees will be published for scouting purposes.

Rosters Each organization will be comprised of 100 players, with 25 at each level.
